Monday afternoon at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California, featherweight contender Bernabe Concepcion could be found training diligently for his July 10th clash with WBO champion Juan Manuel Lopez. Taking place in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, the contest figures to be one of the summers more explosive showdowns and Concepcion is certainly doing his part to ensure as much.
Under the watchful eye of Buboy Fernandez, 22-year old Concepcion was first seen sparring before hitting the heavy bag, timing bag, and speed bag in succession. Rope jumping and random cardio work finished off Concepcion?s training and his spirit is fresh heading into the biggest fight of his career. Concepcion was granted a crack at Lopez after his impressive decision win over Mario Santiago this past February at the Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada.
While the Wild Card gym was stocked full of people from all walks of life there was nobody in the building with more riding on his next performance than the Filipino fighter. Lopez is regarded by many as pound for pound material and has won titles in two separate weight classes while compiling a 28-0 record with 25 knockouts . While the Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico fighter may be the clear favorite heading in he will surely have his work cut out for him in the young and aggressive Concepcion, who is pouring his all into the contest during his training.
