GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines?To show his loyalty to his new party, boxing champion and newly-elected Sarangani province Representative Manny Pacquiao will be attending the inauguration of President-elect Benigno Aquino III and Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay on Wednesday.
Pacquiao, who earlier announced his transfer to Aquino?s Liberal Party from the Nacionalista Party, was set to fly to Manila Tuesday for the inauguration.
He said he would ?support the Aquino administration all the way? in the spirit of unity.
Pacquiao was a known staunch supporter of the outgoing Arroyo administration.
In last month?s national elections, Pacquiao ran under Senator Manny Villar?s Nacionalista Party.
The boxing icon said he had sought Villar?s permission before transferring to LP.
?He (Villar) understood because this (transfer to LP) is for the good of our country,? he told reporters here.
Pacquiao has yet to take his oath of allegiance to his new party.
On May 18, Pacquiao paid a courtesy call on Aquino at his residence on Times Street in Quezon City.
Pacquiao claimed that among the things they discussed during the meeting were the problems in Sarangani Province and the power crisis in Mindanao.
On Monday morning, Pacquiao took his oath as congressman before Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio T. Carpio in a ceremony held at the capitol grounds.
The event was a mass oath-taking for all winning candidates?from congressman to municipal councilors?in the last May 10 elections.
Reelected Governor Miguel Dominguez said they decided to hold a mass oath-taking to project unity.
