Chavez Jr. too much for Duddy in San Antonio fire-fight!

Julio C?sar Ch?vez Jr. W UD12 John Duddy

Julio C?sar Ch?vez Jr. looked sharp and polished out-pointing John Duddy over twelve exciting rounds in the main event of ?Latin Fury 15: La Furia de M?xico? moments ago at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Now trained by Freddie Roach, Chavez Jr. started out well in the opening round using his height and reach, but Duddy became the aggressor in Round 2. In Round 3 the fighters went toe-to-toe and things heated up quickly. Chavez Jr. utilized and excellent right hand while Duddy went to work with the left hook. The fireworks got the crowd involved early and the Alamodome was loud and lively. The action was high paced through the middle rounds and midway through Round 6 Duddy rocked Chavez Jr. but the younger fighter recovered well and came firing back.

Chavez landed the sharper punches down the stretch and really began to bust Duddy up late in the fight. In Round 9 Chavez was relentless and punched Duddy all over the ring but the pide of Ireland stayed on his feet. It was more of the same in Rounds 10 and 11 as Duddy somehow stood up through some hellacious punches from Chavez. The ?Son of the Legend? showed excellent stamina and conditioning to press his attack in the championship rounds after such a rugged fight.

In Round 12 both fighters gave everything they had left and traded shots until the final bell. After twelve hard rounds were complete all three judges had Ch?vez Jr. ahead by scores of 120-108, 116-112 and 117-111. The bout earned Jr. the WBC Silver middleweight title and saw him improve to 41-0 (30 KOs).

?I want to thank Freddie Roach and Alex Ariza,? Chavez Jr. said post fight. ?My team came up with a good game plan and I felt great. Duddy is a tough fighter but I came out on top.?
