We have been reading on a few boxing websites , well maybe one of them, how the Floyd Mayweather Jr Vs. Manny Pacquiao fight is a “done deal” and or how the fight is done except for the signatures on the finalized contracts. That one cracks me up. The fight is a done deal except for the signatures of the fighters on a finalized contract? What exactly does that mean? I mean, did they find this headline at oxymoron.com?
This fight is far from a done deal, in fact as of late it appears as if the fight is less likely to get done anytime soon. Mayweather is looking for a 60/40 split, and this is something that Pacquiao will not agree to, and nor should he. If anything this fight should be a 50/50 split.

There are only a very few people that know exactly what is going on behind the scenes. Arum has put down a gag order, so nobody is talking. Oscar De La Hoya was reported as saying that the fight is close to being done, but quickly recanted and said that he was misquoted. I am guessing that whatever you want to call what De La Hoya said, it’s what a few websites used as their “source” and ran with some ridiculous headlines saying that the fight is a “done deal.”
When Bob Arum breaks out the press release and follows that up with a press conference, that’s when people should feel relaxed that this fight is done.
Most everyone wants this fight to happen. It’s a fight that will go down in history, and it will give boxing a boost that it needs to keep up with the UFC in the mainstream. Mayweather’s 60/40 demand is reportedly what’s holding things up.
When I spoke to the Assistant Director of the Mississippi Athletic Commission, Patrick Turner, he made a good point. He said, ‘Boxing has given a lot to Floyd Mayweather Jr over the years. It’s time he gives back to boxing.” Most Mississippians that I have spoken to about this subject all agree with that. Most of them think that a 50/50 split is fair, and that a 60/40 split is ridiculous.
Nothing is done until it’s done folks. Don’t buy into juiced up headlines on boxing sites, especially oxymoron headlines that make you smile. When you see Arum smiling and standing at the podium with Manny to his right and Floyd to his left, that’s when we should start buying into things.
