REY ?Boom-Boom? Bautista won?t be having his US comeback just yet, as his scheduled bout on Aug. 14 in San Diego, California has been called off.
Instead, Bautista will headline the top-billed boxing show on Aug. 28 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, which also features Milan Melindo.
?The whole card has been cancelled due to the scheduled date and we needed to discuss some concerns,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu. ?I?ll be meeting with them (Powerhouse Promotions) when I go in August for Donnie Nietes?s fight.?
Bautista, 24, was originally scheduled to fight in Virginia last June 26 but the fight was moved to a bigger stage in San Diego.
But it was to be held on the same day Nietes will defend his World Boxing Organization mini flyweight crown in Tijuana, Mexico against Mario Rodriguez in legendary Mexican champion Erik Morales?s boxing show.
Aldeguer also said Nietes?s fight is part of ALA Promotions?s plan to go global.
?We will not be working with just Powerhouse. There are others that want to work with us in the states or from other countries,? said Aldeguer.
Aldeguer said they may work with promotions outside the country next year because their calendar is busy with two big events?one in Cebu and the other in Dubai on Oct. 29.
