If there is anyone to blame for the succession of Filipino boxers who lost is Mexico, it is Michael Koncz who should take the heat.
Koncz, once described by the New York Times as the one who fluffs Manny?s rice, should stay that way instead of sending Filipino boxers to hostile places and acting as their matchmakers.
Koncz is taking advantage of his closeness to Manny Pacquiao and Top Rank?s Bob Arum in preying on unsuspecting Filipino fighters.
Look at what he did to Diosdadi Gabi, Bobby Pacquiao, Fernando Lumacad and, lately, Richie Mepranum.
Many will ask what Koncz had to do with these fine promising Filipino boxers.
Well, Koncz lured them into believing he could make them world champions under his wings.
Gabi was pitted, upon Koncz?s advice, against Abner Mares after Koncz reportedly sweet-talked Gabi into leaving the camp of Manny Pi?ol, the boxer?s former manager. Gabi awfully lost and was never heard of again.
Bobby Pacquiao, despite his poor record, was lined up against opponents he had no way of winning and Knocz was his manager.
It was Koncz who threw Lumacad into the lion?s den with Jorge Arce. Lumacad did not last the third round, needless to say.
Richie Mepranum?s case, although in a different situation, was a case of bad decision.
Koncz should not have accepted the fight to be held in Mexico in two weeks? notice.
Richie never had the opportunity to pile up sparring rounds. No wonder Alex Ariza, Manny Pacquiao?s conditioning coach could not believe Richie went down so easily.
Even former bantamweight champion Gerry Pe?alosa cannot hide his disgust over Koncz?s overbearing ways. Pe?alosa said he loathes the day when their paths would cross ways over long standing issues.
If Ariza could give Koncz a not so friendly slap, Gerry is more than capable of giving him a sucker punch.
For his sake, Koncz better keep his hands off from Filipino boxing prospects.
In the words of boxing aficionado?s, Koncz is simply sanggabon.
