There are reports that say that Floyd Mayeather Jr is demanding a 60/40 split of the purse money in order for this fight with Manny Pacquiao to go down. Are you kidding me? Why should Manny Pacquiao, the pound for pound king, seven division world champion accept anything less than half of the money? What’s more ridiculous, accusing someone of taking steroids with no basis to do so, or demanding more money from a fighter that is one better than you?
Pacquiao is the number one fighter on the planet, and Floyd Mayweather Jr is the number two fighter on the planet. So let me break this down so everyone can understand it. Pacquiao is the number one fighter in the world, he’s the pound for pound king, he’s beaten the same opponents as Mayweather has, only he’s done it in most cases in a more convincing fashion.
On what grounds does the number two guy have to demand more money than the number one guy? Until Floyd can get into the ring and beat Manny fair and square, he’s number two.
Another bone that this writer has to pick is how some of these websites out there printing headlines about this fight being a done deal, and having these phantom sources that they of course don’t name. It’s a ploy just to get the traffic to their sites. Nobody knows a thing about these negotiations except for a very selected few people. It’s highly doubtful that some obscure boxing website out there will be breaking the news that this fight is a done deal.

I spent a few hours traveling to some of Jackson, Mississippi’s sports bars to discuss the Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao negotiations. Of course depending on who you talk to, you get two different perspectives. Nancy Kirk, a Mayweather fan from Byram, Mississippi asks this, “Why should Floyd take less? He’s the pound for pound king. He just retired for awhile, and now he’s back. He never lost his status.”
John Darling of Madison, Mississippi is a Manny Pacquiao fan. Darling had this to say, “Pacquiao hands down is the number one fighter in the world, and should be paid as such. This Mayweather cat is an arrogant idiot who does not deserve the majority of the money. He needs to pray that he doesn’t end up paying Manny more money anyway for that little steroid accusation, remember that?”
Mayweather should not get the lion’s share of the money. In fact, I think it should be the other way around. Manny Pacquiao deserves the lion’s share of the money. At the VERY least, this fight should be 50/50 and done with.
