David Haye, Sergio Martinez, Andre Dirrell, and others featured in the July 2010 issue of the Ring

The July 2010 issue of the Ring Magazine is on newsstands now and WBA Heavyweight champion David Haye is gracing the cover. Haye is coming off of a 9th round TKO win over former champion John Ruiz in which he dropped the Boston fighter four times and is adamant about his desire to face either Klitschko brother. Some of the highlights from the magazine are below?

David Haye threatens the Klitschkos? domination

Brian Doogan breaks down WBA Heavyweight champion David Haye and his aspirations of facing either Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko, respectively. Despite his brash nature, Doogan points out that you can?t deny the fact that Haye is one of the most charismatic and credible fighters above 200 pounds. Haye?s 9th round destruction over Ruiz and his future in the sport is also put into perspective.

The Vicious Cycle

The Ring?s editor-in-chief Nigel Collins takes a look at the tragic ending of Edwin Valero. The Venezuelan fighter murdered his wife on April 18th and was found dead in his prison cell a day later. It was a terrible ending to a true talent in the ring and Collins takes a look at the inner demons that plague a lot of boxers.

Big Stadium Boxing: Retro-fad or the trend of the future?

In recent times Las Vegas has become the Mecca of boxing and some of the finest fighters around the world have worked their magic under the bright lights of the city. It seemed almost to be a certainty that if there was a huge fight taking place that Nevada would be in the running to be the host but this year alone we have seen two meaningful matchups in Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey and Miguel Cotto-Yuri Foreman take place at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium and Yankee Stadium, respectively. Don Stradley takes a look at the past, present, and future of Stadium boxing and how it could impact the sport?s landscape.

Sergio Martinez: Nobody?s pushing him around anymore

Joseph Santoliquito writes about the early hardships of Argentina?s Sergio Martinez and everything he had to overcome as a youth before breaking into boxing and fully realizing his potential. Martinez is coming off of an impressive victory over Kelly Pavlik in which he claimed the WBO and WBC Middleweights belts and his career is at an all-time high. In the interview Martinez speaks of his love for his native country as well as taking a look back at his victory over Pavlik.

Seeing Dirrell in a new light

Andre Dirrell is coming off of his greatest victory as a professional this past March 27th in which he came away with a disqualification victory over Germany?s Arthur Abraham after he was hit illegally in the 11th round. Dirrell?s knee had touched the canvas and a frustrated Abraham unleashed a nasty left hook that had the 26-year old down and out. In the fight Dirrell showed great focus and ability while clearly pulling ahead in the fight. Paul Salgado breaks down Dirrell?s victory, his future, and also examines the other fighters of the Super Six tournament. Dirrell trained at the IMMA Gym in Las Vegas for the Abraham clash and will likely be coming back to prepare for his next fight with Andre Ward.

Wladimir Klitschko: ?David Haye is a pussy?

The Ring Interview for July is with Wladimir Klitschko. ?Dr. Steelhammer? talked about the American public, his relationship with HBO, his connection to the fans, fighting in the United States, and how much of a future he has at 34. Klitschko also has some venomous words for WBA champion David Haye. Hopefully the two men can settle their differences in the ring soon enough.

Bernard Hopkins rages against the dying of the light

There will never be another Bernard Hopkins in the sport of boxing. The sure-fire hall of famer has had a remarkable career but his foul-filled April decision over Roy Jones was as anti-climatic as they come. Hopkins? relationship with Golden Boy Promotions and his future in the sport both have their share of question marks surrounding them at this point. Collins closes his piece by pointing out ?Anybody who thinks Hopkins is not going to fight this final battle with all the passion and skills he?s employed throughout his Hall of Fame career is delusional?.
