There is nothing quite like the weigh in to a meaningful professional boxing event. It is then that the suspense is further heightened as we are able to see a variety of things from how prepared the fighters are to the often intense stare down that takes place. The weigh in has always served as somewhat of a carryover to the following night?s main event in terms of excitement and anticipation.
Moments ago at the Great Hall in Yankee Stadium both Yuri Foreman and Miguel Cotto made weight for their WBA Jr. Middleweight face off tomorrow night. Both men appear to be in tremendous shape with Foreman coming in at 154 pounds while Cotto tipped the scales at 153.5. This is Cotto?s first fight in the Jr. Middleweight division as he is coming off of a November TKO loss to Manny Pacquiao in which he surrendered his WBO Welterweight piece.
Insiders at the event reported that the atmosphere was extremely electric and that the Puerto Rican following for Cotto was extremely apparent as he received much fanfare. As the two fighters stared down there didn?t seem to be any love lost between them and when the first bell rings the atmosphere should be very pitched.
The key undercard attraction to the fight is a Jr. Middleweight contest between undefeated fighters Vanes Martirosyan and Joe Greene. Martirosyan is coming off of a decision win over Kassim Ouma this past January in Las Vegas in which the Freddie Roach trained prospect was dropped. Greene has great power but has shown technical flaws thus far. Vanes came in at 153 ? pounds while Greene weighed in a 151 ?.
