Summer is upon us and we’re nowhere near signing the ‘Fight of the Century’ between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao. Whether it’s in the public or in secret, both sides are at an impasse. Mayweather Jr refuses to compromise and is standing firm on his demands of drug testing and wanting a larger share of the fight purse.
In my previous article, I made it perfectly clear that Manny can’t back down and give into Floyd’s demands. So, Unless Floyd comes down from his “Money High-Horse” then I don’t see a resolution anytime soon. Perhaps, it’s best for everyone if Floyd Jr just moves onto “Plan B”. Plan B Make no mistake about it, Sergio Martinez is Floyd’s “Plan B”. At first, Floyd Jr hinted at Sergio being a possibility. Then Sergio followed up with comments about how he would love to fight Floyd Jr. And now, Sergio’s adviser Sampson Lewkowicz confirms that Martinez is Floyd’s second option: “I’d say it’s definitely accurate. We’re waiting to see what HBO and Mayweather do.” Fighthype.com Reasons for Floyd Jr to move on Martinez holds multiple titles in 2 weight classes. He only has 2 losses on his resume and the last one was a controversial decision to the #3 pound-for-pound fighter Paul Williams. Martinez is a solid opponent and won’t be afraid to go toe-to-toe with Floyd Jr. But the biggest reason for Floyd Jr to move on from Manny, is that Floyd will get everything he wants in a fight with Sergio. ? Floyd would get larger share of fight purse ? Floyd would get his drug tests ? Floyd wouldn’t have to fight for Sergio’s titles ? Floyd would get a ‘credible’ opponent that would boost his resume ? Sergio is eager to give Floyd whatever he wants Sergio believes the hype In addition to the previously listed reasons for Floyd to move on, Sergio thinks that Floyd Jr is the King of boxing and believes the hype: “Mayweather is king and he makes the decisions. Perhaps, the results of their fights with other opponents can bring them closer to an agreement afterwards. One thing for sure is, the boxing world needs a break from all of the madness that surrounds the negotiations between Floyd and Manny. And, in addition to the break, we would get 2 more exciting fights.
