Recently Floyd Mayweather Jr made a wish come true for an 18 year old fan. The Make a Wish Foundation is a wonderful organization that grants wishes for kids who are fighting cancer. Floyd made a dream come true for a young man, and it’s a beautiful gesture no matter how some of his detractors want to down it.
Floyd also has a charity that feeds homeless people who are in need. It seems though no matter what Floyd does that is positive, he still gets very nasty and negative comments left in boxing forums, and right here on the pages of the Examiner. Floyd Mayweather no matter how badly some people hate him is not so bad of a person. Yes he talks a lot of trash, and he hams it up for the cameras, but he’s not as bad as many fans make him out to be.
Ironically, what’s rather hypocritical is that the very fans that criticize Floyd for his trash talking do worse trash talking, and take their trash talking to levels unheard of out of Mayweather’s mouth. Some of the comments left by Mayweather detractors that this writer has read are down right racist, disgusting, and vile.
It is true that Floyd has been in and around some folks that are not so positive. There have been a few skirmishes around Floyd’s life, so nobody is saying that the guy is perfect, but he deserves credit when credit is due.
Mississippians in and around the Jackson area that I have spoken with either love him or hate him. I spoke with Daniel Hayward of Jackson, MS about Floyd’s charity work, and his recent Make a Wish gift to a fan. Hayward, who is not a Mayweather fan had this to say, ” I am not a Floyd fan and I do not like his cocky attitude. With that said, if it’s true that he is involved with the Make a Wish foundation, and he feeds homeless people, you can’t knock that.”

The level of hate for Floyd Mayweather by his detractors is almost at a ridiculous level. Floyd has taken a real beating in the boxing forums, and in some headlines. It will be interesting to see how high the level of hatred rises if he beats Manny Pacquiao, like a lot of people are thinking he will.
Floyd has no way of ever winning the public relations fight against Pacquiao. His problem? Manny is such a huge role model to millions of adoring fans worldwide that feeding homeless people, and making a dream come true for a fan is small in comparison. With that said, it’s not a small thing for that kid with cancer that got to meet his favorite fighter.
