It goes without saying that Yankee Stadium is the place to be this week and weekend. Located in the Bronx, the massive ballpark serves as home to the New York Yankees, the reigning Major League Baseball champions. With superstars Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, and others always making appearances the 1.5 billion dollar venue is constantly in the public?s eye. This weekend the focus of the stadium will turn to another sport as Yuri Foreman defends his WBA Jr. Middleweight championship against dangerous Miguel Cotto.
Earlier today both men where on hand for the Yankees-Orioles game and could be seen interacting with fans as the fight is now just two days away. Cotto has always had a strong following in New York as is always the case for any Puerto Rican star and has had memorable bouts in nearby Madison Square Garden against the likes of Joshua Clottey, Shane Mosley, and Zab Judah.
Cotto?s appeal was evident as he signed autographs for fans and interacted with various people. Despite having a cold looking demeanor about him you will be hard pressed to find anyone in the sport who is as much of a gentleman as the Caugus fighter. Despite looking reflectively calm today there must be a lot going on in the former two-time champion?s head. Following his November 2009 TKO loss to Manny Pacquiao, Cotto was written off by many and has a chance to get some redemption if he can dethrone Foreman.
