Earlier today at the Yankees Stadium WBA Jr. Middleweight champion Yuri Foreman and Miguel Cotto came face to face for the final press conference to announce their June 5th clash. Cotto will be moving up in weight following his November TKO loss to Manny Pacquiao and he didn?t pick the easiest of opponents in the always awkward Belarus native.
Speaking to the media Cotto spoke of his training and noted that he worked with much passion towards the June 5th date. Cotto noted that the fans will be the real winners on the night of the fight and anyone who has gotten a glimpse of Cotto in action can attest that this is likely true.
Foreman said that he is looking forward to the fight and it is true that he has never been in the spotlight like this before. Yuri got a taste of the big show with his win over Daniel Santos at the MGM Grand on the under card of the Pacquiao-Cotto bout and seems to have a new confidence about him.
For the bout Cotto is working with his new trainer Emmanuel Steward, who has helped resurrect the careers of Heavyweight champions Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko. Steward noted that he is expecting a hard fight and that Miguel will start off fast and come out fighting. Steward is said to be extremely impressed with the Puerto Rican?s work ethic and ability in their first camp together.
Despite Steward?s belief in Cotto the overwhelming buzz amongst boxing insiders seems to be that the soon to be Rabbi will simply be too big and fast for Cotto, who still has question marks surrounding him from his devastating losses to Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito. June 5th is creeping closer and closer and the questions will soon be answered.
