Unless either side makes a major concession, I don’t see “The Fight” being any closer to getting signed any time soon. Possibly not until after another tune up fight. Or at all.
In a column May 30th, David Mayo of Mayweather’s hometown Grand Rapids (MI) Press who has covered Mayweather and the fight scene for years brought up a few points that all fight fans should keep in mind.
“I don’t know if Mayweather – Pacquiao will happen, now or ever, and am highly skeptical of it,” said Mayo. “If the fight with Mosley did big business, the original financial agreements — which weren’t a problem at all –would come off the table and he (Mayweather) would require an edge in the monetary split before agreeing to the fight,” Mayo added.
And don’t forget the pesky blood testing problem. While Pacquiao has dropped his demands from 24 days to 14, Mayweather wants testing to be in play right up to fight time.
Mayo says Mayweather might be more flexible on the blood testing but that is just a guess.
It appears Floyd Mayweather actually said “no” to any days of testing deadline other than up to the the day of the fight. So Manny agreeing to 14 days was never going to be accepted as far as Mayweather was concerned. Maybe it was just wishful thinking for Pac Man and his fans.
For the first time, some usual sources are NOT talking or saying very little, so that would normally tell me talks are going on at the highest level.
Maybe Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones is working up a guaranteed figure so big that it won’t fit on the Cowboys Stadium scoreboard and Bob Arum and Richard Schaefer must accept it on behalf of their fighter’s.
I believe the time is now for this fight. It has marinaded long enough and both fighters risk losing other fights or battling injuries or boredom.
However, while the risk is high, both fighters could pull off one more tune up fight before meeting each other and still basically be in their physical primes if they meet within a year from now. But by then the landscape would have changed again.
