Earlier today at the Trinity Boxing Club in New York, both Yuri Foreman and Miguel Cotto participated in media day for their upcoming fight at Yankees Stadium this Saturday, June 5th. Both men appear to be in tremendous shape just days away from their WBA title clash at 154 pounds.
Cotto is working with new trainer Emmanuel Steward and from all reports has had a smooth camp for the bout. There are several question marks surrounding Cotto, as he is coming off of a November 14th TKO loss to Manny Pacquiao in which he was dropped twice. Cotto has taken some serious punishment in recent years but Steward noted that he was ?shocked? at just how well the Caugus fighter is coming along.
Foreman captured his title with a spirited decision win over champion Daniel Santos in which he dropped his elder foe twice along the way. In the bout Foreman showed a much needed sense of aggression and even a little bit of power, two trademarks that had been lacking in his repertoire until then. Foreman has a shifty and awkward style, one that will certainly be difficult for Cotto to figure out.
The contest is generating a lot of buzz and reportedly over 30,000 tickets have been sold. In a summer that is otherwise lacking in big fight events, Cotto-Foreman could be a pleasant surprise.
