Earlier today WBA Jr. Middleweight champion Yuri Foreman participated in his portion of media day for the assembled press at the famed Gleason?s gym in Brooklyn, New York. Looking fit and relaxed, Foreman hit the speed bag and mitts for anyone willing to watch. Foreman is now less than two weeks away from a highly anticipated clash with former champion Miguel Cotto this coming June 5th at Yankees Stadium.
Also on had was Top Rank boss Bob Arum who addressed questions from the media, as did Foreman. Foreman could also be found shadowboxing, jumping rope, and gazing at a hot batch of Dunkin? Donuts that were presented to him. Foreman likely was unable to enjoy the snacks due to the obvious grind that he faces in making the 154 pound limit. Foreman is coming off of a title-winning effort against Daniel Santos at the MGM Grand this past November and will need to bring all of his focus and talent in order to carry over the momentum from that performance.
Foreman?s care free demeanor is a stark contrast to that of his opponent Cotto. From all reports Miguel is said to be looking extremely solid as he trains rigorously at the Fight Factory Gym in Tampa, Florida. Cotto is said to be carrying the extra weight well with his move up one division north and has been putting the hurt on sparring partners from various reports.
The Foreman-Cotto bout highlights a somewhat slow summer in the sport of boxing and gut feeling here is that we will all be pleasantly surprised with the action on that night.
