MANNY PACQUIAO’S bid to exact vengeance on Erik Morales seems to have become the obsession of Wakee Salud, his longtime associate and the manager of Pacquiao’s brother-boxer, Bobby.
This early, Salud has already lined up a battery of sparring partners for Pacquiao once he sets up training camp next month in Cebu.
Salud, one of the country’s top boxing promoters and handler of world-caliber fighters, said Pacquiao will spar with Cebu’s toughest ringsters and hopefully they would help prepare the Pinoy icon for his rematch with Erik Morales on Jan. 21, 2006 in Las Vegas.
“This early, it is safe to say that Pacquiao will have high-quality sparring partners because Cebu has a lot of tough guys like Randy Suico,” said Salud who will join Pacquiao in Bacolod City where the boxer will be honored as an adopted son of the city.
Salud said he will bring Pacquiao to the Queen City because of the quality of sparring sessions that it has got to offer.
American trainer Freddie Roach is set to arrive on Nov. 13 to begin the initial phase of the training that will culminate with six weeks of seclusion either in Phoenix or San Bernardino, California.
Salud said he will immediately request another Cebu boxing bigwig, Tony Aldeguer, to allow Pacquiao to use the well-equipped ALA Boxing Gym, arguably the best gym in the country. “The facilities at Mr. Aldeguer gym is world-class and Manny will get plenty of quality sparring there,” added Salud.
