MANILA, Philippines – Sarangani province Congressman-elect and 7-division world champion Manny Pacquiao said on Thursday he will vie for the chairmanship of the commitee on energy at the House of Representatives, and help resolve the power crisis gripping Mindanao.
The dry spell brought about by the El Ni?o weather phenomenon, has worsened the power situation in Mindanao, with all of the island’s provinces now suffering daily brownouts of up to 12 hours.
“Siguro, gusto kong hawakan ang energy committee, sa amin kasi laging brownout,” Pacquaio said in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN’s Dyan Castillejo.
Previously, Mindanao Development Authority Chairman Jesus Dureza said that if it rains in June, the power situation in Mindanao will return to normal in December. He said the Mindanao power grid has a shortfall of 700 megawatts.
Most of Mindanao’s electricity source come from hydro-electric power plants.
