Does Marco Antonio Barrera really need to strike back again?
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Three-time world champion Marco Antonio Barrera is back again, this time under Top Rank Promotions, according to Top Rank officials.
“I’m happy to be with Top Rank, ” says the 36 years old boxing veteran. “I want one more title shot.”
Barrera lost twice to Pound-for-Pound King Manny Pacquiao via TKO 11 in 2003 and unanimous decision in 2007. His all-time time classic battles with Eric Morales whom he fought thrice, scoring two wins in 2002 by unanimous decison and 2004 by majority decision and a loss in their first encounter in 2000 by split decsion.
A high probability that a fourth encounter with Morales will take place by the end of this year, according to inside source from Barrera camp.
Barrera (65-7-0, inclusive of 43 knockout wins) is training at his own gym in Guadalajara, Mexico, preparing for his upcoming non-title fight on Top Rank’s Latin Fury 15 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, June 26.
“This will be my first time fighting for Top Rank,” Barrera said today from Mexico. “I am very happy for this as I have one more goal. I want to be the first Mexican champion to win world titles in four weight classes.”
Barrera is set to campaign against Adailton De Jesus (26-4-0, inclusive of 21 knockout wins) in the lightweight division.
The chief trainer for Barrera is still his brother, Jorge Barrera.
