In an exclusive one on one interview Israel Vazquez discussed why his fights with Rafael Marquez are recognized as one of the best in Mexican boxing history. Also, he said who he thinks would win between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Its interesting hearing his reaction since he spent many years with Freddie Roach and sparred with Pacquiao many times. Also, he gives his thoughts on whether he would do a random blood test?Read on for the full transcript?
Liverpuncher: Many people are saying that your fights with Marquez are some of the best fights in the history of Mexican boxing. For example the fights between Eric Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera, the second fight between them wasn?t as good as the first but you and Marquez continue to fight each other with as much heart and will. How many times do you think you can fight like this?
Vazquez: I think something very important in life as well as in boxing is to love the things you do. I fight for the love of the sport. If I could do it over again, I would do it a thousand times over to be a boxer because this sport has given me more than I ever anticipated in life. And thank god, Rafael seems to have the same feelings as me. That why when we both enter the ring we give everything we have to leave with a victory.
Liverpuncher: And how do you feel about the cuts on your eyes? Do you think they will be an issue during the fight?
Vazquez: No I don?t believe so. I?m going to fight physically and mentally at 100%. I don?t ever go in there thinking that they are going to cut me. I try to connect with the best punches, be a better fighter round after round. In regards to the cuts it only makes me give a little extra to be more focused that way the blood cannot be an issue to determine the fight.
Liverpuncher: So after Marquez, who do you have in your sights?
Vazquez: Well there are a lot of names out there. I want to go after all the big names. I have respect for Marquez and I hope for a victory then go after all the big names.
Liverpuncher: There are rumors out there that Marquez is no longer working with Nacho Berinstein. Do you think that can be an advantage for you?
Vazquez: Yes I heard that as well and I don?t think it will be an advantage or disadvantage. Because Rafael is a fighter with lots of experience. He is a fighter who knows a lot about boxing. And whatever someone else can teach him Nacho already taught him and he will come out fighting like he always has.
Liverpuncher: Last question, between Pacquiao and Mayweather, who do you think would win?
Vazquez: Well I think Mayweather. Because of the difference in weight. Pacquiao is a fighter that throws a whole lot of punches. But I think Floyds ability is much more superior to Pacquiao
Liverpuncher: Regarding the blood tests, if Floyd Mayweather or another fighter offered you $20 million for a fight, would you take the blood tests?
Vazquez: (Laughing) I believe I would! That amount of money doesn?t come around often in the sport. And I would do it. Principally because I would want to show that I have everything clean, that I arrive to fight in good condition, and demonstrate I don?t need anything extra to give a great fight.
