Just because No. 2 looks great as Mayweather has in his two comeback fights against Juan Manuel Marquez and Shane Mosley, you can’t forget what got Manny Pacquiao to No. 1 in the first place and what should keep him entrenched as No. 1 today.

I believe many voters today are too emotional, too patriotic and don’t have a sense of boxing history.
If there is a desire to have a monthly poll based on current results, that’s fine, but to move someone up solely because of activity isn’t right either. Boxing is an international sport and fight schedules are staggered in different countries.
If it turns out that Manny Pacquiao fights someone other than Floyd Mayweather in November, he will still probably sway enough votes to overtake Mayweather and be No. 1 again.
So, something has to give because next it would be Mayweather’s turn for one-up-man-ship.
If Mayweather and Pacquiao fight, all this squabbling goes away and we just wait for the winner of the fight to be crowned undisputed No. 1.
I really believe all this frustration as to who is currently No. 1 is caused by the inability to get the two fighters into the ring and that they come from such diverse backgrounds and cultures and have only one common opponent in Juan Manuel Marquez.
Some believe Ring Magazine, which has a popular rating system, but is owned by Golden Boy, is too biased toward its fighter Mayweather.
Yahoo’s boxing editor, Kevin Iole, has also come under a ton of negative publicity for siding with Mayweather and not Pacquiao.
But you can find just as many groups that side with Pacquiao albeit not as well known as The Ring or Yahoo.
I say I’m glad that boxing has this problem. Otherwise we would have absolutely nothing to write about.
It’s too bad many attacks have become personal, but a lot of that is the cultural differences of many people involved emotionally and it happens.
