You hate to bring the race card into the mix but would Manny Pacquiao be ranked number two by anyone on this planet if he were a white guy from Youngstown, Ohio? Would a seven division world champion who was white and from Ohio, or say Michigan be anything but number one? I doubt it. Or perhaps it’s not only his skin color, perhaps it’s because he was not born in Boise, Idaho. Mayweather being an African American is currently ranked number one by Yahoo sports. So that sort of erases the skin color argument, so the next explanation would have to be where Manny was born.
What else does this guy have to do? Maybe Arum needs to get a hold of the Klitschko’s and set up Pacquiao vs. Wlad. Perhaps a Pacquiao KO over Dr Klitschko would convince a few people. I am convinced that Pacquiao’s nationality has a lot to do with why some people insist on ranking him number two and not number one. Pacquiao’s resume speaks for itself, there should be no debate.
In Mississippi there is a long history of racial divide. This state more than any other state has had it’s share of discrimination. It still exists to a degree today. Race plays a part in things and for anyone to think otherwise, then they are ignorant. I guarantee that if Pacquiao had blond hair and blue eyes, and accomplished everything that he’s done, he would be consider the best fighter that ever lived. Muhammad Ali would be second to him.
Maybe there should be a pound for pound list for boxing scribes. Not physically a pound for pound list otherwise yours truly and my buddy Dan Rafael would be neck and neck in that race! But perhaps a ranking on how writers are looked at?
On a serious note, if Mayweather wants the number one ranking then he needs to defeat Pacquiao. Compare each fighter’s opponents. Compare the level of competition, and compare how each man did against the same opponents. This shouldn’t even be up for debate.
