Months of trash talking between Amir Khan and Paulie Malignaggi came to an explosive head today at the weigh-ins. After each fighter were weighed and dressed, they came together for the customary face-to-face pose.
Some verbal bantering between the two led to a physical encounter between both fighters, promoters, and both entourages. It appears that Amir Khan shoved Paulie, which then led to a chaotic scene. These two have said so many absurd things toward each other that is was bound to get ugly. But a weigh-in brawl is a perfect way to get more attention and hype for the fight. There has been too much trash talking between the two for the last few months. They genuinely dislike each other. This brawl was great for entertainment purposed as long as nobody was seriously hurt. I personally wish all weigh-ins were this intense. Conclusion According to Boxingscene.com, Malignaggi’s promoter plans on filing for a hearing with the New York State Athletic Commission. Loud Dibella wants the State Athletic Commission to investigate and assign culpability to those involved. Khan’s trainer Freddie Roach simply chalks this up to two fighters who having bad blood and being put in a combustible situation with the pose down. I personally think that this is part of boxing. Filing charges because of a brawl at the weigh-ins is rather pointless; especially when they all will be celebrating later on when the money comes rolling in.
