For a kid that grew up with nothing and sold cigarettes for a buck, it’s pretty amazing when you think about the achievements of Manny Pacquiao. Here you have a kid that sold smokes for pesos and now is an elected Congressman in The Philippines. Oh yea, I forgot to mention a seven division world champion who will go down as one of if not THE greatest fighters of all time.
The climb to the top has been a journey. Two things that have enabled Manny to reach such heights are his Faith in God, and his relentless work ethic. Never in a million years did Manny Pacquiao think that he would be where he is now. It’s truly an amazing journey, from having nothing to having a seat in the Congress, and having financial freedom for not only his lifetime, but for his children’s lifetime.

An unheard of 105lb professional fighter from General Santos City, PI would rise to a level of success that has not been seen in a long time by anyone from that part of the world. He would go on to win seven world titles in seven different weight divisions. Pacquiao appears on American television shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live, and he’s on Billboard’s, on magazine covers, in movies, on stage singing, and fighting for millions of dollars each time he steps into the ring.
Who would have guessed all of this was going to happen to Manny Pacquiao? Freddie Roach, the famed fight trainer from Massachusetts had a gold mine walk into his gym in Manny Pacquiao. Roach wasn’t stupid like some of the other trainers that passed on Pacquiao. I bet those trainers that turned Manny down are all crying in their shoes right now.
Mississippians who follow boxing all respect Manny Pacquiao. Mississippi is a small state located in the southern part of the United States. Mississippi’s main sports passion is college football. Even here in a football state, the people who follow sports all know who Manny Pacquiao is. I spoke with former New Orleans Saints RB Deuce McAllister about boxing one time. He mentioned Muhammad Ali, and the other name he mentioned? Manny Pacquiao. McAllister is from Mississippi, and went on to play his college ball at Ole Miss University.
An amazing journey from the streets of General Santos City, to Hollywood, and back to The Philippines as Congressman Pacquiao. In the middle of it all are seven world titles in seven weight divisions, a music career, an acting career, and financial freedom. Not too bad huh?
