Change is good. Especially if it means new exciting things to come to a region like Saranggani Province.
Health care, livelihood programs and education are some of the many things soon to be elected Congressman Manny Pacquiao has in store for his constituents. But perhaps the biggest thing Pacquiao can do to a neglected region like Saranggani, is simply affixing his name to it.
Pacquiao’s victory is Saranggani’s victory. Just look at all the media attention Pacquiao has brought to the otherwise anonymous area. Even stateside writers write about the region as if they had a clue what they are talking about. (Major props to our Examiner colleague Michael Marley for his outstanding coverage of Pacquiao’s congressional bid and for taking the time and effort to fly to the Philippines and truly give readers the best possible perspective).
With the world paying attention to how Congressman Pacquiao fares as a public servant, expect a major upswing in the Saranggani province. A lot of these corrupt politicians get away with murder because several of their questionable practices get to be swept under the rug. Pacquiao will not have that privilege. Almost everything he does will be placed under a microscope. And don’t expect the political dynasty he just overthrew that’s known as the Chongbians, would not jump at the very first sign of opportunity to scrutinize Pacquiao in an effort to regain their seat back.
Pacquiao’s influence and affluence also affords Saranggani a better shot at progress. The main difference about Pacquiao compared to several other politicians is the fact that he isn’t a politician.. at least not yet. Pacquiao truly wants to help. He’s not in it just to win it or some false prestige. From day one he has shown his affinity for the poor and how he wants to inspire and help turn things around for them the way he had done for himself.
The elections is not over yet, but all signs point to a Pacquiao landslide victory. With that said, I would like to congratulate Manny Pacquiao for again defying odds and continuing to be an inspiration to Filipinos with this impending congressional win.
