Ah the world of politics, a sad mixture of well to do white collar greed mixed with a bunch of power hungry lost souls. This is what Manny Pacquiao is about to get involved with. In America, politicians who have the most money usually are the ones who end up with the victorious campaigns. Money is power, and power turns good people into bad people.

This writer knows without a shadow of a doubt that Manny Pacquiao is a good man. I have spent time with him, I have gotten to know him, and I know several of his team members. Will politics change him? Will the crooked and corrupt contaminate Manny’s good heart? Or will Manny bring real change to the political field of play?
There are a lot of Filipinos that do not want Manny to win the election, but it turns out based on the results that a lot of people did want him to win. Can Pacquiao be as successful in politics as he is in boxing? Will Pacquiao continue to fight as an elected Congressman? Pacquiao told this writer a few months ago that it’s possible. Although Pacquiao said that he would continue to fight even after being elected, I do not think it will be many fights. Pacquiao will learn quickly that being an elected official will be a plate full. It will be hard for him to represent his constituents in the Philippines, and to continue on with a boxing career.
Mississippians that I have talked to about this, (mainly Filipinos) for the most part did not want Manny to win this elections. I spoke with Lira Adkisson, a Filipino who resides in Mississippi and she voiced her concern, “I do not want Manny to win the election. He can do more for our people outside of the political arena than he can inside of it. Too many corrupt people in politics in PI.”
This is more than likely the beginning of the end of Manny’s brilliant boxing career. It’s not like he had a lot of boxing ahead of him anyway. Pacquiao has nothing more to prove in boxing, he’s done it all. Of course depositing another 40 million in his bank account would be nice, so a bout with Mayweather will probably happen. Don’t count on many more fights from Pacquiao though. Winning his bid to become a Congressman has brought his retirement from boxing all the more closer.
