It?s hard to think of a sport that gives its fans a more intimate and telling look than does boxing. Due to the up close and brutal nature that defines the sweet science, fans have been able to see the heart, character, and perseverance that is needed in order to succeed on the grandest of stages. Through highs and lows pugilists have a way of laying everything on the line and when the bell sounds the ring itself can be a very lonely place.
In today?s modern era the coverage of the sport has been enhanced due to the wide range of talent of photographers behind the lens who have helped produce some amazing and telling pictures of the sport over the years. All one has to due is take a look at a handful of action shots from any boxing match to see just how intense and fierce the sport really is. In the photo galleries below several fighters and events in recent times have been showcased.
Former Welterweight and Jr. Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto has always seemed to have a photogenic quality about him, as the Caugus, Puerto Rico native?s thrilling highs and heart wrenching lows have been filled with blood, knockdowns, and extreme fanfare. While completely stoic and modest outside of the ring, another side of Cotto?s persona opens up while in between the ropes.
WBO Welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao?s story has certainly been an inspirational one in recent times. While Pacquiao became a star with victories over the likes of Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales he has catapulted himself into another realm with his recent rise and success about 140 pounds. It?s been impressive and all the while Pacquiao has seemed to carry the country of the Philippines on his shoulders.
There doesn?t seem to be a fighter in the sport who is as controversial as Floyd Mayweather Jr. The 33-year old?s abilities are without question but it is his braggadocios nature that has turned many against him. Mayweather is coming off of a May 1st domination over Shane Mosley and his star is shining brighter than ever.
