Seven-division champion, Manny Pacquiao, could defend his WBO welterweight (147 pounds) title on Nov. 13 against an opponent to be determined, his promoter, Bob Arum, and, adviser, Michael Koncz, told Nancy Gay of FanHouse on Monday night.
Arum and Konz are in the Philippines with the 31-year-old Pacquiao, who is ahead in the polls during his quest to become the first boxer to hold a congressional seat in the Sarangani Province.
Arum and Koncz are in General Santos City, Philippines, where they were interviewed at Pacquiao’s campaign headquarters.
On Monday night, Arum told Gay that he expected Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 knockouts) to re-enter the boxing ring again in November.
Asked if the opponent would be unbeaten Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs), Arum would not say.
“I’m not here to negotiate a fight,” said the 78-year-old Arum, CEO of Top Rank Promotions. “This night is all about Manny accomplishing his dream, to help his people make a better life.”
Mayweather-Pacquiao would require plenty of negotiation, particularly since their first attempt at making about bout — one that had an agreed-upon date of March 13 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas — ruptured and burst as a result of disagreements over random blood and unrinalysis testing.
Koncz emphasized that there is no opponent, and that there has been no negotiation whatsoever with the Mayweather camp, but that the Nov. 13 date is only a target.
