Who’s the single greatest fighter of all time? Many people right off of the bat say, “Muhammad Ali!” but was he? What must a fighter do in his career to be considered one of the greatest of all time? He would probably have to win multiple world titles, and he would have to do it in multiple weight divisions. Well, Manny Pacquiao has done that easily. Muhammad Ali was just a heavyweight. Granted, as an amateur Ali did fight at light heavyweight. Ali was a 3 time heavyweight champion, a very historic career indeed. Was he the greatest fighter of all time? Does this make him one of the greatest of all time? Definitely. Does this make him THE greatest of all time? Don’t be so quick to say ‘no’ to this question. Why not? Why not say Pacquiao is the greatest fighter of all time? What else does a man have to do in order to be considered the greatest? When does a fighter separate himself from the category of ONE of the greatest of all time, to THE greatest of all time? I would say that person would not only have to win multiple world titles (Pacquiao has) but he would have to have done it against elite competition. Manny Pacquiao has done this as well by defeating first ballot Hall of Famers all the way to the top. So what else does someone have to do in order to be considered THE greatest of all time? Win multiple world titles, in multiple weight divisions, and be a role model to his fans? Manny has done this as well. Mississippians that I have spoken to about this subject were a little bit apprehensive about saying Pacquiao is the greatest. They admitted that he is ONE of the greatest, but they weren’t ready to call him THE greatest. I think that people tend to be a little be apprehensive about calling someone THE best, because it’s easier to say ONE of the best. When Mike Tyson was crushing his opponents in minutes there were actually people saying that he should be considered as one of the greatest of all time. Tyson sold tickets, and he put the sport on his back or awhile and carried it. Wait a second, someone is doing that now. Guess who? Yup, Manny Pacquiao is doing it, and he’s been doing it for quite awhile now. Is Manny Pacquiao THE greatest fighter of all time? One thing is for sure, Manny is making a pretty strong argument about it.
