WILLIAMS & KERMIT FOLLOW FLOYD REPLAY ON HBO
Los Angeles, CA- It was just a few weeks ago that native Argentine and Oxnard, CA resident Sergio Martinez (45-2-2, 24 KOs) snatched the undisputed middleweight crown in a mild upset victory over Kelly Pavlik (36-2, 32 KOs) at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. December of last year he lost a hotly contested battle with Augusta, GA native Paul Williams (38-1, 27 KOs) who squares off with another former foe Puerto Rican Kermit Cintron (32-2-2, 28 KOs) from Home Depot Center in Carson, CA in a junior middleweight (154 lbs) bout. Considering Cintron escaped with a controversial draw with Martinez, and that Paul beat Sergio it?s expected that Paul will handle business Saturday. Cintron, a volatile puncher, is the underdog looking forward to the opportunuity to leapfrog Williams and gain a shot at a rematch with the newly crowned middleweight champion.
LOSSES TO MARGA-CHEATO DON?T COUNT!
Kermit?s only defeats are questionable considering those losses were at the hands of Antonio Margarito (37-6, 27 KOs) who was caught prior to his last fight in January 2009 against Shane Mosley (46-6, 39 KOs) putting a plaster type substance in his hand wraps. Margarito consequently had his license to box in the US revoked by the California State Athletic Commission and ironically makes his return to the ring Saturday as well. All of Antonio?s victories are now coming to question whether or not he had that substance in his wraps in previous fights. Cintron personally believes this to be the case and thus considers himself undefeated.
PAUL?S BEATEN EVERYONE HE?S FOUGHT
Williams who holds a win over both Martinez and Margarito and is a totally different animal. Martinez is more of a stylist who uses speed and angles to befuddle opponents, and that troubled both Pavlik and Cintron. Williams is a volume puncher who sometimes abandons defense but makes for crowd pleasing fights. Kermit who has a high knockout ratio will hope to get Paul into a slugfest and try to score a knockout because Williams non-stop style probably won?t give Kermit the opportunity to use his boxing skills to pull out a decision. Is essence Williams won?t be hard to find so he must utilize that to his advantage and throw hard shots.
CINTRON HAS FOLDED BEFORE
Paul on the other hand does have some punching power and even more impressive is his chin. He?s only been down once as a pro or amateur,that being his last fight with Martinez. One disadvantage for Cintron is that in both of his losses he folded under pressure and lost his composure leading to knockout defeats. Williams who fights at a blistering pace will look to push the Puerto Rican to his limit. Cintron who normally doesn?t like pressure will have to weather the storm early or hope to walk the sometimes reckless Augusta native into one of his power punches. However it probably isn?t meant to be. Kermit who was a formidable puncher at 147 has went the distance in 3 of his last 4 fights, with three of those at 154. Cintron who couldn?t knockout the predictable and forward moving headfirst brawler Alfredo Angulo (18-1, 15 KOs), don?t expect a much more mobile and faster Williams to be worried about anything the Puerto Rican brings to the table. Expect Paul to take care of business and stop Kermit somewhere in the mid to late rounds.
