If you are a boxing fan, then chances are, you probably know or you?ve heard of Pacland: Yes, folks that piece of real estate in cyberspace where fans and critics (or should we say, haters?) of Manny Pacquiao, the Filipino boxing phenomenon, converge to say their piece in a no- holds barred discussions amongst themselves on any boxing or non- boxing related topics that one can come up with as long as the moderators permit them.
Pacland is also a place where website links of every boxing- related articles are posted. Well almost, but not all, but so long as the people running the site deemed that an article is Pacquiao- related, you can find it there. Pacland also became the venue wherein Filipino writers of every name and color are given a chance to showcase their writing talents and abilities. In a nutshell, Pacland became the window of the world wherein one can have a glimpse about the kind, practice and brand of sports journalism in the Philippines.
Thus, Pacland became the watering hole of boxing fans coming from the four corners of the globe either to satisfy their curiosity or just wanting a little taste of Pacmania. Pacman fever is everywhere, which should be expected considering that almost, if not all of the ?posters? are Filipinos scattered in the Diaspora.
Recently, the peace and order in Pacland were shattered when hostile forces with sinister designs invaded its domain and embedded their modern-day version of the Trojan horse to the consternation of the visitors to the site. And like in Virgil?s epic poem The Aeneid, these Trojans managed to disguise themselves and elude the watchful eyes of the Pacland guards and would attack and infect the computers of unsuspecting visitors with a malicious program called Antispyware Soft which is a malware which would enable the people behind it to gain unauthorized access to the user?s computer system.
This Antispyware Soft is considered a rogue program which, according to many computer software-related websites ?reports false system security threats? to make the user think that his computer is infected or is under attack by a computer virus or malicious software. This malware also blocks other programs as well as prevents them to function properly.
The Antispyware Soft rogue software employed by rogue people has infected a lot of computers whose users have visited Pacland in the days prior to the May 1st Floyd Mayweather, Jr- Shane Mosley fight up to the present. This writer has to restore his laptop to a previous setting in order to get rid of the said infection.
Aside from doing a computer repair and restoring one?s computer to a previous setting, there are various software in the world wide web that can one can download for free to help get rid of this pesky and irritating program as well as various websites dedicated to this malware alone which offers a step-by-step guide on how to delete the said malware from one?s computer.
Although it is hard to find out the people responsible for these Trojan attacks on Pacland, some amateur conspiracy theorists including Harold D. of Dearborn, MI in a conversation with this writer at the Allen Park Community Center have pointed to ?some rogue Mayweather fans? as the possible culprits. They also suggested that there is now an ?ongoing proxy war between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in cyberspace pitting computer savvy fans from both sides.? They also added that the ?infected computers were just casualties of war between the forces of both camps.?
Sometimes it is really funny how people can come up with all these funny scenarios in the spirit of fun in spite of the havoc it wrought on some people?s properties. Anyway, let?s hope that the current precarious situation in Pacland will be resolved soon by its ever resourceful and hardworking administrators so as not to victimize the thousands of boxing fans that visit Pacland everyday.
