MAYWEATHER-MOSLEY: A WARM UP FOR PACQUIAO
San Francisco, CA- Although the final numbers aren?t in yet, the Floyd Mayweather-Shane Mosley PPV broadcast was a winner financially! Historically, it?ll probably be close to 2 million with home and theater sales combined. While watching the fight at a sports bar full of people in their 20?s, I came to the realization that this ?generation? of boxing fans is enamored with ?Pretty Boy? Floyd. Just like Oscar De La Hoya in the 90?s, and Roberto Duran, Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns, and of course Mike Tyson before him, like it or not, Floyd is the boxing Messiah of 2010.
EPO, STEROIDS & PAIN KILLER FOR FLOYD?S HANDS
Another touchy subject of late has been whether or not Floyd shoots a numbing agent Xylocaine (legal in Nevada) into his hands pre-fight. Over the years, Muhammad Ali had done so, as did Junior Jones prior to the Marco Antonio Barrera rematch. Having been a fighter that performed sans any hand problems, I never needed anything to numb the pain. But I saw a lot of guys that did and they got their shots pre-fight. In a recent press conference, Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather?s agent of sorts, he emphatically denied Floyd ever ?shooting up? his hands. That being said, if Mayweather does use a numbing agent prior to fights, then in my mind and HBO?s Larry Merchant as well, is a ?performance enhancing? drug that should be banned.
PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER FIGHT GUARANTEED!
The once-canceled match between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, there is simply too much money involved for the principles to not work things out. While I?m the first to state that Pacquiao should take the random blood and urine tests for steroids & EPO, I am also of the opinion that shooting a numbing agent in a fighter?s hands gives an unfair advantage to the recipient. Having been around guys that shot their hands up over the years, I used to think the issue was a ?non starter.?
NO PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS PERIOD!
But after giving it some thought, I concur that whether or not Xylocaine is legal in Nevada or not, if Floyd is indeed using this, it is a ?performance enhancing? drug that gives him an unfair advantage over his opponents and has no place in 21st century boxing.
