Los Angeles – After Floyd Mayweather’s starching of Shane Mosley on Saturday, all the hoopla in the boxing world surrounds a potential clash between Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather.

If you believe Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum and trainer Freddie Roach, fans will get to see the two best fighters in the world square up in the ring sometime before the year lets out.
Unfortunately, I am a naysayer and cynic when it comes to boxing and its back room politics laced with simplistic feuds. [Read about Richard Schaefer’s transformation into a true boxing promoter.]
For the record, Arum – once the promoter of Mayweather – has no love for the Las Vegas based ring genius, his manager Al Haymon, or Golden Boy Promotions which puts on Mayweather’s fights. Would a childish beef keep Mr. Arum from making a bout which would bring millions upon millions of dollars to his coffers?
Yes.
If you do not believe me, just look back through recent press clippings where Arum has suggested that Pacquiao could possibly fight documented boxing cheat Antonio Margarito.
Imagine that, boxing’s pound for pound best by passing Mayweather to fight Margarito, just because Arum might not want to do business with his rivals.
And if you have noticed, Arum is promoting Margarito’s return to the ring in Mexico this Saturday night via Latin Fury pay per view. In my estimation, Arum is using this Saturday nights event to gauge the interest level boxing fans have in Margarito’s post-cheating career.
Pay per view numbers in line with most Latin Fury cards Saturday night invigorate Mr. Arum in his pursuit of Pacquiao – Margarito. A lackluster pay per view draw by Margarito this weekend might tame Arum’s wild thoughts and ensure that fans get to see Pacquiao – Mayweather.
My suggestion, do NOT order Latin Fury this Saturday night. Do NOT watch it via a clandestine Internet connection. DO call Top Rank at (702) 732-2717 and let them know you have no interest in Margarito, or a Margarito – Pacquiao bout.
Remember, in the end, boxing fans control the boxing economy – make your voice and wishes heard.
