I?ve gotten a lot of responses on a previous blog when I said Manny Pacquiao wouldn?t want to fight the Floyd Mayweather that fought on Saturday.
Why is that hard to imagine?
I admit, I like Mayweather. I could do without some of his boasting but I?ve always said, if you want someone to shut up, beat him. That hasn?t been done.
I also like Pac-Man. For him to reinvent his style, thanks to Freddie Roach, and to fight like he does is amazing.
Still, here is why Money would triumph over Pac, Mayweather would not get hit as often as Pacquiao has hit the other guys. Period. Mosley got two good hits on Mayweather. DeMarcus Corley got one good shot. Zab Judah got a couple of shots. But that?s not enough to beat an elite fighter.
But we?ve seen Pac get hit. Often. Even as he has dominated the Cottos, Hattons and Clotteys, he?s been hit hard. Look at him after fights. He looks like he is in a fight.
Yes, Pac-Man has more power than anyone Floyd has faced, outside of Mosley. And if Pac can get a few hits on Money, he could knock him down. But I don?t see him hitting him that often. Money is a defensive fighter first. Only when he knows he won?t get hurt is when he opens up. Pac would eventually get frustrated (see last few rounds of the Cotto fight).
Still, they?re not going to fight. Pac-Man will not agree to the blood testing.
I don?t think that should be a problem, but hey, if Pac doesn?t want to test and if Mayweather doesn?t back off his stance, they won?t fight.
And in the end, the only people who suffer because of it are boxing fans.
