How dominant was Floyd Mayweather Jr.?s one sided routing of Sugar Shane Mosley Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas? To be blunt, it wasn?t much different than his twelve round routing of Juan Manuel Marquez in his last outing. Aside from two big right hands that Mosley landed in Round 2, Floyd was in command the entire night. He dictated the pace and geography of the fight and gave Shane Mosley a thorough boxing lesson. In the opening round Floyd found his timing right away and looked to measure Mosley. Shane caught Floyd twice in a sequence in Round 2 and the crowd went wild but Mayweather remained composed and went right back to boxing.
The rest of the fight was no contest. Floyd Mayweather stood in front of Shane Mosley and fought at a steady and measured pace. His pace. Mayweather spent the majority of the bout backing Mosley up with sharp, straight right hands and slicing left hooks. It was a complete fistic masterpiece.
After twelve rounds were complete Floyd was ahead on all three official cards 119-109 (x2) and 118-110.
According to Compubox, Floyd Mayweather Jr. more than doubled Shane Mosley in punches landed, connecting with 208 blows to Shane?s 92. Mayweather landed nearly 50 fifty per cent of his power punches in the bout and landed 44 per cent of his overall punches to just twenty per cent for Mosley.
After the bout Mayweather reiterated his stance that he will only fight Manny Pacquiao if the Filipino marvel agrees to the same USADA drug testing that Shane Mosley did.
A disappointed and frustrated Shane Mosley only said he felt the fight would go his way when he landed flush in Round 2 and gave full credit to Floyd for his performance.
The arena was packed on another electric night in Las Vegas and Floyd Mayweather Jr. put on one of the most impressive performances of his career in front of a crowd that included Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, and Mike Tyson. After such a brilliant outing one is left asking if there?s anyone in the world who can solve the Mayweather riddle.
