While it may not be the Mayweather v Pacquiao all fight fans had wanted it’s still going to be a tough bout with no quarters given or asked for. At stake potentially a crack at Pacquiao’s welterweight title subject to contract negotiations and the overriding say of MommyD.
If it does go ahead against Mayweather it will be the richest fight in boxing history.
Mayweather comes in at 146 pounds while Mosley weighed in on Friday right on the 147-pound limit.
The pundits believe that the undefeated Mayweather could be in danger of losing his 40-0 record to a worthy opponent in Mosley.
“He couldn’t just fight Joe Blow,” Mosley said as the fight approached. “He had to fight somebody good if he wants to be considered the best.”
The boxer from Pomona, California has won world titles in three weight divisions, and is the current WBA Welterweight Super Champion. At 38 he can include no less than Oscar De La Hoya among his scalps and despite his age he is still packing plenty of power.
With a record of 46-5 with 39 knockouts Mayweather better make sure this doesn’t turn into a slugging match.
Mayweather is unconcerned saying : “I’m not saying nobody else is good, but I know how to win. That’s what I do. I win. I always win. I can adopt and adjust to any fighter, any style.”
There can be no doubting his pedigree with Ring Magazine rating him the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world from July 18, 2005 through June 2, 2008. Mayweather has won six world boxing championships in five different boxing weight classes; he is the former WBC welterweight champion, a title he vacated upon his retirement.
This however does not match 7 time world title holder and boxer of the decade Manny Pacquiao who is still the man he has to beat if he wants to be considered the best of his generation.
Regardless, tonight’s fight will undoubtedly be a cracker not to be missed.
