FLOYD ?STEALS? FROM THE FANS
Los Angeles, CA- While thinking of something positive to say about Saturday?s promotion ?Who R U Picking,? the welterweight contest between ?Sugar Shane? Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) and Floyd ?Money? Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) something occurred to me. Does Mayweather deserve any credit for deciding to fight Mosley? ?Money? stole the fans money last time getting one million PPV buys against 135 lb. champion and Manny Pacquaio?s (51-3-2, 38 KOs) nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1,37 KOs). As expected, Mayweather who returned to boxing after an 18 month self-imposed retirement, dominated every round cruising to a decision victory.
MAYWEATHER FINALLY FACES A WORTHY FOE!
Facing a prizefighter the caliber of Mosley is actually what he?s owed the fans last time out, and prior. When you consider Floyd?s safety first and often described as boring style, he owes it to fans and the buying public to face someone with the skills and ability to make him fight. Does Mosley have that ability? While the oddsmakers have Floyd around a 4-1 favorite, at least some experts think Mosley has a chance to make this competitive even if they don?t believe he?s going to win.
IS HE NEARLY AS GOOD AS HE CLAIMS?
The toughest part of picking a winner here is the notion of whether Mayweather is as good as his record suggests? Is he great only because he says so or because of the body of work he?s done in his career? I believe this to be a little bit of both. Mayweather fortunately has begun to control the psyche of the boxing media and public. What makes him so good and difficult to beat? Is it a matter of his level of skill or opposition? I am of the opinion that if Mayweather is truly great he should beat Mosley with relative ease at this stage of their careers.
FLOYD FIGHTS LIKE A BE-ACH!
The main reason some people aren?t fond of Mayweather has nothing to do with his arrogance. It?s the way he fights. If he was knocking guys out, or at least would mix it up more and take some risks people would probably care less about his attitude. People want entertainment inside the ring not just outside. If Floyd was more humble, he would be endeared by more of the public. In his mind it?s all about the money. Playing the villain role probably generates him more dollars.
AT 33, HAS HE PEAKED ALREADY?
Physically Floyd is probably still in his prime but mentally some of the desire may be gone. Not that Floyd doesn?t train or isn?t the hardest worker in the sport, mentally he just may be drinking his own Kool-Aid too much this time. If he has this belief that Shane Mosley will just let him dictate all of the terms of this contest there may be a rude awakening. If there?s a loss of focus in the lead up to this bout he may wind up with a loss. Mayweather has achieved a comfort zone thus far, possibly because he?s had so many decisive victories. Not that he has been taking on all easy or handpicked opponents as some of his critics suggest, but because he normally wins his fights so easily. If Mosley somehow turns this into a competitive match and Mayweather has to FIGHT to win how will he handle adversity? Shane Mosley hopes he has the key to the lock to let us find out.
CALL 911 AS A ROBBERY IS ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE!
Fortunately for Floyd as the case is in all of his fights he figures out a way to control the pace leading to victory. Unfortunately if Floyd does win which I believe he?s going to, don?t expect a virtuoso performance here. Like Mayweather said in the last episode of HBO?s Mayweather vs. Mosley 24/7 documentary series ?Shane Mosley is trying to find out what is the remedy? How?s you stealing so much money? Baby I?m a bank robber. Get your ski mask on. Get ready May 1st cause it?s going to be a stick-up.?
