“Winds of change in Sarangani in favor of Manny Pacquiao has become unstoppable,” says the Editor who consented to an interview with this writer on condition of anonymity. “He is going to make it, but it’s a very close contest.”
Brief inside report fresh from SARANGANI, Philippines, April 21, 2010 – Based on an exclusive interview via Facebook with the Editor-in-Chief of a major broadsheet in Mindanao, Pound-for-Pound King Manny Pacquiao’s impending victory for a congressional seat remains to be seen.
“Winds of change in Sarangani in favor of Manny Pacquiao has become unstoppable,” says the Editor who consented to an interview with this writer on condition of anonymity. “He is going to make it, but it’s a very close contest.”
Meanwhile, Roy Chongbian, a top executive of the Shipping Lines owned by his family, does not back down as well from pursuing the congressional contest banking on his family’s well-entrenched political clan. In his campaign sorties where the grassroots are marching in the light for a big change in Sarangani, the said younger Chongbian bolsters his brand of campaign for better governance.
“We need a competent leader to run the congressional district,” Chongbian intimates.
However, Team Pacquiao’s political machinery has become stronger ever since the boxing champ sets his feet in the villages and speaks directly to the people, even to the remote sections of the hinterlands where the natives live, according to a government employee who happens to pick-up the telephone in the office of Sarangani Governor Miguel Rene Dominguez when this writer attempts to contact the said provincial executive.
Sarangani Governor Dominguez, who is running for reelection, is currently supporting the candidacy of Roy Chongbian. And Pacquiao is endorsing the candidacy of Juan Domino for governor of Sarangani.
Report has it lately that party stalwarts from the administration have shifted their support to Pacquiao, who is running under the Nacionalista Party of Presidential Candidate Manny Villar, the said employee reports.
“Pacquiao has created a strong grassroots movement and it’s happening before our eyes. People are excited and it’s overwhelming,” the reporter adds.
