WBC bantamweight Hozumi Hasegawa and WBA minimumweight champ Yutaka Niida both retained their world titles Sunday at Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan. Hasegawa (19-2, 6 KOs) scored a seventh round TKO of late sub Gerardo Martinez (27-6-2, 20 KOs). The bout was halted at 2:18 of the seventh after Hasegawa dropped Martinez in the seventh. Hasegawa was originally slated to face Diego Morales, who pulled out with an injury. Niida (19-1-1, 8 KOs) won a split technical decision over Heriberto Gijon (21-1-1, 13 KOs). The bout went to the cards after an unintentional headbutt in round ten left Gijon unable to continue due to a cut over the right eye. Scores were 96-95, 96-95 Niida, 97-93 Gijon.
