If Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer had actually entertained examiner.com scribe Michael Marley’s second question to Shane Mosley trainer Nazeem Richardson on a conference call recently the world would be a different place today.
Marley, in one 800 number call, would have done for race relations between Hispanics, blacks, Irish and Filipino’s what Rosa Parks did in Alabama on a bus 55 years ago between blacks and whites in America.
The follow – up question referred to one Manny Pacquiao and Shaefer decided this was an all Mosley-Mayweather call on his nickel even though both fighter’s and the speaker’s needed are headed down the stretch to May 1st they clung to Pacquiao like a crutch throughout the conference call.
But it was not to be and Marley is again denied entrance to Mount Rushmore but we know he will keep trying in his stylish indefatigable manner.
Richardson actually said he hadn’t said something that he was quoted by LA Times reporter Lance Pugmire. Marley called Pugmire, who took all of 40 seconds to find the smoking gun quote and I now don’t know if Manny and his minions will turn from hating Mayweather to Mosley or not over his trainer’s lie or at least a misstatement of some kind but Richardson owes an apology to Marley certainly if not the assembled media.
Marley and I spoke on the subject while I was killing some time at a New York airport but I couldn’t make sense of it because I had just purchased an $8.95 recent issue of The Ring Magazine at a newsstand with the poster art of Mayweather vs. Mosley on the cover, which I couldn’t make sense over. I thought I might have accidentally picked up a porno magazine by mistake, and the $8.95 for that magazine seemed pornographic.
I was too embarrassed to return it and grab either a Playboy or Penthouse at this point and with a few people in line behind me giving me the evil eye I pulled out a ten and sheepishly went about my business.
It’s good to be back home.
