“Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man’s sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
This quotation explains then why I can say that I love not only misguided man Adam Carolla but misguided man Floyd Mayweather Jr. as well.
Hate is a dead and empty thing and I, for one, am not ready to be entombed.
But, if ever Mayweather had a chance to wear the good guy’s hat, it was when the attention starved Carolla went into his Podcast litany of hate on Manny Pacquiao specifically and all Filipinos generally.
Mayweather could, should have, stood up and said, “That’s not right. That’s a voice of ignornace, of stupidity and of pure hatred. The target’s race, creed and color does not matter but that message is a toxic one.”
Mayweather had the temerity, the nerve, the utter gall to mention himself in the same bated breath as societal changemakers Malcolm X and Dr. King but I guess L’il Floyd limits his trailblazing to the tiny issue of random bloodtesting.
In Mayweater’s America, is it permissible to deliver hate speech as long as it is limited to Filipinos?
Maybe Carolla preempted Mayweather by praising him in his volcanic rant, starting off with calling Money May “a rich guy, a smart guy” and taking his side on the drug testing issue.
Why should I contradict such a genius, maybe that’s how Mayweather looks at it, I don’t know. Sort of an America for the earlier arrival Americans bonding experience.
You may be certain Mayweather’s lips will be flapping overtime starting Saturday night on HBO when the 24/4 shillathon begins for the May 1 Shane Mosley bout. I’m betting Floyd does a Pacquiao rant when the meter is running, ka-ching, ka-ching.
