(Aside: I’m by no means any kind of police investigator but this San Diego family that vanished along with their two children could it be possible that their real family last name is not actually McStay? Oh, and finding their SUV left in a San Ysidro parking lot which is a short walk to the Mexican border, it doesn’t take McGruff the Crime Dog to figure they’re in the Tijuana area, does it?)
Any chance the family voted unanimously to see if could avoid Roy Jones-Bernard Hopkins II, happening 17 years after their first dreary bout?
(More seriously, I hope all four McStays are found safe and sound as Mexican border cities are not fit for guerilla commandoes armed with machine guns lately. I noticed this on my last visit to Juarez..)
We now return you our regular boxing programming…
Instant route to a bitter divorce? I’m sure their are many methods to get a marital split but a surefire way would be to say to the wife, “Honey, it’s Easter Weekend and I’ve loaded up the car, get the kids, we’re off to Vegas to watch Bernard Hopkins crucify Roy Jones.”
I’m telling you, this Not By Popular Demand, 17 Years Later Rematch is a total buzzkiller.
I’m thinking that three hours of Stations of the Cross is more fun than watching two once great, now diminished 40ish (OK, Jones is 39 but BHop is what, 60?) warriors moan and groan their way through 12 rounds.
And it will go 12 laborious rounds, folks. BHop, whose got more left in the tank despite being the older man, will win by a wide, unanimous decision.
Bernard Hopkins has the rabbit habit in Las Vegas while Roy Jones seems amused (Hogan Photos/Golden Boy)
Who’s the Golden genius who chose Holy Saturday for this unholy debacle?
I guess it’s boxing version of the baseball tradition, Oldtimers Day.
No one gives a long in the tooth fighter a retirement luncheon and/or a gold watch so this is a way to send Jones packing while Bernie lingers on.
Both men have given plenty to boxing so maybe we all them one more night at the circus.
If this starts looking like a sparring session after two rounds, I won’t be shocked.
Don’t complain to me about the $50 PPV price point, nobody will force you to buy it at gunpoint.
You do get Sugar Ray Leonard on the announce team so you will hear him say “quite naturally” about 1,500 times.
“Quite naturally” is Ray’s bridge phrase like I use “but I digress.”
I wonder if the coppers ever considered this, the McStays took off to avoid watching this fight.
Maybe that turned the McStays into the McFlees, I don’t know.
