Earlier today at the Mizuya Lounge inside the Mandalay Bay, Roy Jones worked out and showed off his still-confident swagger to the media and onlookers alike. At 41 years of age and coming off of a first round TKO loss to Danny Green this past December, Jones is continuing the good fight and has a Saturday assignment lined up with long-time rival Bernard Hopkins in Las Vegas.
While the Jones-Hopkins rematch is long overdue that hasn?t dulled the fierce war of words between the two men. Their second encounter was discussed time and time again in the past ten or so years but never came to fruition because the two stubborn pugilists could never see eye to eye at the negotiating table. Now that Jones? is years removed from being atop the sport, a clash with Hopkins is one he is welcoming with open arms at any cost.
?Bernard Hopkins has been waiting a long time for this fight,? Jones said following his workout. ?This fight is going to have the same result that it had the first time. Bernard is not going to feel happy with himself on Sunday morning. He is going to be in a lot of pain on Saturday night.?
Confident as ever despite the roadblocks that he has encountered in recent years, Jones? spirit is obviously up heading into the contest. In closing Jones feels that his versatility, which helped him prevail over Hopkins nearly seventeen years ago, will again be the key.
?I know how he fights. He is going to try to rough me up. I will be ready for anything he tries to do. He has no idea what I am going to do or how I am going to fight. I know what he does. I think I am going to stop him. I don?t know when, but I will be really surprised if it goes 12 rounds.?
