SAYING he is through with the hard part of his training, Filipino Eriberto “Yukka” Gejon left for Japan last Sunday with only one mission in mind: Bring home the world title.
The lanky and undefeated Gejon (21-0-1, 13 KOs) took a Philippine Airlines flight, accompanied by chief trainer Brix Flores and conditioning coach Robert Bubuli, to keep his championship date with World Boxing Association minimumweight titlist Yutaka Niida on Sept. 25.
Gejon will challenge Niida at the 20,000-capacity Yokohama Arena given more than an equal chance to capture a second world crown for RP following the success of Fil-American Brian Viloria in his quest for the WBC light flyweight last Sept. 11.
His manager, Rex “Wakee” Salud, departs next week together with Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao, some members of Philippine media and Salud’s business associates.
“God knows how much I’ve prepared for this fight,” said Gejon in Cebuano. “My manager and my team are ready to go. This will be a quality fight.”
