HBO PPV RESULTS FROM MGM GRAND

BARRERA WINS HBO PPV “SNOOZER”

Las Vegas, NV-Going into last night’s 130 lb. throw down between recognized World champion Marco Antonio Barrera, most people, including myself, thought that Australian Robbie Peden would present a formidable foe. As it turns out, he wasn’t!

From the first bell, until the final clang some 36 minutes of battle later, you could sense the difference in ability. I mean, make no doubt about it, Robbie Peden is world class, Barrera on the other hand, his talents allow him to rule the universe.

FIGHT WAS OVER “DURING ANTHEMS”

If you saw the first round, and the fourth, that essentially was the fight in a nutshell. Barrera, now 61-4, (42 KO’s) used his jab, straight right hands, hooks, both to the head and body. In other words, he displayed an entire arsenal, one that is unequaled today in boxing. Even at 31, and with 65 fights, I keep waiting for his age, and the wear and tear on his body, to come into play. Well, it looks as if I’ve still got a lot of time to wait!

AUSSIE SHOWED MARCO TONS OF RESPECT

And while Peden had a moment here and there, he landed just 87 out of 503 punches. Marco, on the other hand landed 300, this out of the 725 punches he hurled. That, says it all! If I were to waste any more time describing this rout, I’d be wasting your time and mine! Both fighters weighed 130 lbs., as Peden declines to 26-3, (14 KO’s). The judges tabbed matters this way, John Keane had it 118-109, while Dave Morretti and Michael Pernick both had it 118-108.

MOSLEY SMOKES CRUZ WITH EASE!

Although the opposition wasn’t too willing, Shane Mosley, Pomona, CA, 148, pitched a shutout on the www.RingTalk.com card over Mexican Jose Cruz, 148. The fight was over 12 seconds into the first round, this when Mosley clipped Cruz’ chin with a solid right hand counter. No knockdowns, just Mosley being blunted at times by the rough house tactics of the now 32-1-2, (28 KO’s) Cruz. At the end of the dime, nobody needed a scorecard as Shane won every minute, in my mind, of just about every round. Mosley is now 41-4, (35 KO’s).

JOHNSON HURT IN LOSS TO CHAVEZ

Levander Johnson, 135, Washington DC, was beaten down in every round, this before the match was halted at the 38 second mark of round 11. It was such a whipping, that I wanted the fight halted in the seventh. But the slaughter continued as Jesus Chavez, 135, simply beat the snot out of the defending IBF lightweight champion. Now 34-5-2, Johnson is undergoing surgery for “bleeding” of the brain in a Las Vegas hospital. Chavez is now 42-3, with a possibly fatal 29th knockout!
