Earlier today at the Extreme Couture Gym in Las Vegas, Nevada, Ali Funeka spoke to the media about his upcoming rematch this Saturday night with Joan Guzman. Funeka followed up by participating in an open media workout and looked sharp while hitting the mitts. Funeka and Guzman will meet at the Hard Rock Hotel and HBO will televise the proceedings starting at 10:30 PM/ET.
In November the two men fought to a highly controversial draw at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec, Canada. Despite some initial trouble from his elusive Dominican foe, Funeka adapted well and appeared to control the contest with his range while landing the cleaner and more effective blows over the second half of the fight. When the decision was announced Funeka had a look of disbelief and pain on his face.
Despite the sorrow that was attached to the first contest, Funeka claims that both his mind and body are completely fresh heading into their second encounter. Funeka?s confidence is still in tact and Saturday night marks a new chapter in his career.
?I thought I proved myself that I’m the best, but couldn?t make it in the last fight against Guzman,? he said. ?I was very angry and upset with the decision and hurt because I was supposed to win the last fight. In Canada I was robbed and I hope Las Vegas won?t be the same and it?s a fair decision. I?m not concentrating on the last fight I?m focused on this one.?
