Subject: Mexicans In L.A. Were Calling Zahir “Nigger”
If you received emails from what you allegedly described as racist Filipinos, I think you should’ve addressed these people personally and not jump at the opportunity to create another controversial write up that definitely stains the Filipino people. I have no idea what was written, but as a journalist you should’ve expected such remarks given your stand on the issue. More than anything, I think it was a compliment that there were people who actually read your articles and go out of their way to respond by writing to you. Don’t even pull out the race card please, cause believe me every race is guilty of being racists in their own way. Don’t even ask me how many times I heard Mexican people calling Raheem a “nigger” during the Morales bout.

Subject: RACIST FILIPINOS, NOT!
I’m a Pacman fan, a Filipino but I guess I have to respect your opinion, I think objectively speaking your right, but the only thing that makes me want to say your wrong is because of the HOPE that Manny gives to his countrymen. Well said Pedro, I agree and disagree. He-he!
Maybe most of ‘em were just carried away. but i will keep on hoping that Manny will make it, its a natural desire to feel that way to his fellow countrymen. I just hope Manny will improve and hope to see a different Manny someday. i guess he is the one of the most bankable boxer, everyone is making money of course but at the end of the day, how will Manny sustain it, and this is where that fans come in, of course including, we just hope and pray.
I’m just happy that the Filipinos now are being noticed and that’s good enough for me, for now, I’m still savoring that blessing as a Filipino and for Manny, I’m really happy he is returning back that favor to his countrymen, not just by bringing pride to r country but literally financially helping the boxing industry and blessing financially his fellow villagers by giving money, food and HOPE in General Santos, his hometown, and for us living in manila, its the inspiration really. Believe it or not sometimes the REBELS, the LEFTIST and the COMMUNISTS would have a ceasefire when there’s a Manny Pacquiao fight! Isn’t that interesting?

Mr. Pedro Fernandez,
As a Manny Pacquiao fan, i would to make an apology on the bad remarks that they’ve written against you and the Mexican people. I have not yet read them but from the posts that I’ve read from the MP website, I think they are really out of line and will never be acceptable.
One thing is for sure, Manny himself will not be happy with those remarks, because I think he’s a decent guy both inside and outside of the ring. Those posters may not be necessarily Filipinos, but definitely they are not true boxing fans.
More power to you and I like your objective opinions about boxing, especially on our national hero and pride Manny Pacquiao

Subject: Great People At www.MannyPacquiao.ph
Hi, Mr. Fernandez,
I was informed that you recently were bombarded with hate e-mails by Filipino Pacquiao fans regarding an article you wrote about Pac’s winning chances against Erik. I like apologize in behalf of the entire Filipino fan base in the website called “Pacland”, for the discourteous and rude manner in which they have addressed you. Even in my limited capacity as an ordinary boxing fan, I believe that those who violently reacted to your article were not the true fans or the core group of mature Pacman fans of the website.
They’re registered of course, but they do not fully represent in any official way the true sentiments of the fan base. I must say, sir, that the guys who run the Pacland website are mature and responsible guys who just want to live out the dreams of their youth.
I’ve met these and went out with guys, Pedro, and I’m impressed. I briefly wrote for the www.ringsidereport.com website so I can also live out the dreams of my youth. And I have come to appreciate just a handful of boxing writers over the years. For their fairness and fearless views. And believe me, the name Pedro Fernandez is high up there in my book.
Thanks for taking time to read my mail and cheers for now !

Subject: We Are Not Racists!
Dear Pedro,
First let me apologize in behalf of my fellow Pinoy’s. Let me explain their side. Pinoy Pacfans are just showing loyalty and excitement every time Manny fights. They behave some “racist” attitude you say but inside they’re not. Actually we love Mexican tele-novelas, etc. Pacfans are just carried away in there first impressions, especially words that can easily heat their ears. most of the time I witness this situation, and that it causes street rumble.
Maybe we adapt that culture from the Spaniards, like Mexican we’re hotheads, but not all of us, we are!

Subject: A Hoax
First of all, I gotta tell you all your article is a HOAX. Especially the article you wrote against Manny. How sure are you that Erik will beat Manny? Yah! Manny is small for that division but I gotta tell you Manny will put up everything he got if the rematch push through given all the advantages to Morales.
I’m not predicting a win in favor of Manny, but, I gotta tell you Manny will put on a great show. I know in his clash against Marquez, he doesn’t have the sufficient skill to beat Marquez in a decision. But as far as I know Manny is improving, skills wise. He doesn’t have to improve anything other than his boxing skill, fought a more technical sense of fight. He’s got the speed, power, footwork, maybe he’s just a natural slugger fighter which makes him vulnerable when he turn the show to slugfest. and that what people love about Manny he can be as intense as anybody else. He knows how to close the show with passion. I know all of your articles are just mere opinion and prediction, but this one is a fact. I’ve already seen this twice. Erik is a good boxer but NOT A GOOD SPORTMAN. For me HE IS A LOSER ANYWAY, even though he carry a record of only 3 defeats. You want some proof? What did Erik do to Barrera the last time they fought? And to Raheem, he tried to shake hands but Erik resisted resist. If there’s one reason why Manny is such a great boxer aside from his tremendous skill is HE IS A GOOD SPORTMAN. He knows how to accept defeat.
Subject: Angry Pinoys!
Had read some irritating remarks related to the subject. Yes, some of those are out of line and that made me sad. I thank you for taking time to write that article to remind some of my co-Pac fan. About winning over Morales, I can only respect your opinion. Being a Filipino and a Pac fan, however your analyses, I believe Manny can win over Morales, not because of luck but because of skills.
To you and to some, Manny is predictable. Barrera, and many authorities in boxing may not agree with you. Erik Morales can say Manny is, until they face each other again. Eric was predicted to win over this tune up, not by only you, but almost all. He lost. Some ides of predictability is not very reliable.
Thanks,

Subject: I Agree!
I also a Filipino but I don’t realize that you had some topic before that some of my countrymen did not agree with. Well anyway on what I had read on your article, I AM with you and believing on every words you said.
By the way I also thinking Pacquiao will hardly beating Morales on their rematch if it will go through on January. But because I’M a Pacman fan, the hope is still there even I know it is really hard to beat the guy.

Subject: Letter from General Santos City
Dear Pedro,
I am a Filipino who lives at Manny Pacquiao’s hometown, General Santos City. I wrote to point out a couple of issues. And this is not a hate mail.1. You have to understand that the Filipinos don’t have much to brag about these days. Lea Salonga may be big in America but our masses don’t get to see Miss Saigon. They cannot cheer for her on their TV sets like they way they scream their lungs out for Manny. Understandably, any Filipino’s first reaction towards your write-up would not be far from adverse. Those who reacted surely thought you’re Mexican (and you’re not) because even if your name sounds Filipino also, they would not think (or accept) that you are. That’s why the anti-Mexican feelings. 2. I like the way you are pointing out Manny’s dim chances of ever beating Erik because of size, weight, skill, reach, etc. It is a down-to-earth reminder that winning in boxing is certain just because you beat a lesser fighter earlier (Velasquez, as you thought).
Nevertheless, greatness is never about just conquering your equals. It’s about David killing a Goliath. Maybe we Filipinos are trying to get that feeling again when Manny beat the once “greatest featherweight in the planet” Marco Barrera. No one thought Manny had a chance!

Good afternoon, well i read your article. Ill make it short email. I wanna apologize for those so stupid who made those comment to you. I didn’t really read their comments, but read the tread at pacland. So i didn’t bother to read what those unprofessional people wrote. But what I read it pacland, that is really bad. I’m always thankful for all the help i got from Mexicans, or those related to them. I appreciate being with Mexican culinary experts like Rick Bayless , Geno Bahena, who is the most popular! Subject: Manny & Erik
From your article, you said: “Manny is not going to get any bigger, taller, and no, weight lifting isn’t the answer either. The bottom line is that Erik is significantly bigger than Pacquiao, with longer arms and reach. He has a better jab than Manny, and he throws better, more fluid combinations. I thought Pacquiao could beat Erik the first time. But after watching the tape, I can now see why Morales’ promoter Bob Arum still wants Morales-Pacquiao II in January. And while it’s the “easiest big money fight” out there for Morales, it at the same time is the “hardest big money fight” out there for Pacquiao. Here’s a sincere wish of good luck to both warriors, and my view of their January rematch.
Subject: Pinoy In California
I am a Fil-Am based in Northern California and have been following all the fights of Manny Pacquiao here in the US and other countries. We have the same opinion when it comes to the boxing ability of Morales versus Manny based from their last fight. During their last fight, Morales could always make a counter attack at his own pace with high success rate because of his speed and his reach backing Manny up every time.
At the Morales-Raheem fight last Saturday, Erik’s body frame is just way too big when comparing it with Manny’s frame. And that is probably because of the body mass during the fight which is 134 for Erik vs. 130 for Manny. My prediction on the upcoming Manny VS Erik fight comes January is not favorable to our fellow countryman, but I could be wrong. Any way, as long as the good almighty dollar is on the table and spreads to the right people, everybody should be happy after the fight….my two cents.

Subject: Is Pedro Full Of S*IT?
It’s terrible that you had to deal with the inappropriate language and sentiments that were thrown your way with regard to the column you wrote. I just want to say that I, as a Filipino, do not share such sentiments and there are indeed many who share my views.
I do, however, very much look forward to the rematch! I think your points are right on, however, there is something to be said about Manny being a bit more comfortable at 130lbs now that he’s had some time to get used to it. Plus, I may be wrong but if I saw the tales of the tape correctly, Manny does have a longer reach that Erik, despite being shorter and slighter. I believe you said Erik had longer arms.
Anyway, for what its worth, I don’t think you’re full of s*it like some of my countrymen have accused you of being.
Sincerely,
Paolo Vasquez
P.S.: And yes, thank you for helping get the word out regarding the previous promoter’s scamming of Manny!
Subject: Pinoy Rage!
Hi Pedro,
I am a long time reader of your site, and this is my first time that I’m writing to you. I am a Filipino, mainland born but now staying outside of it. Well I read your latest column and I understand what you are feeling right now. I grew up there and I know how some people can be so arrogant, insecure, as well as stupid when it comes to criticism of Manny.
These are just bunch of clowns who have fouler mouth than their ass. I’m not anti-Filipino or anti-Manny either. I’m a die-hard Manny fan and also a Patriot to my homeland. It is just that many Filipinos like me are so open minded and would not react to write ups, criticism, good or bad.
Seeing Filipino pugs fighting on TV makes us always proud. Manny losing to
Eric Morales (like you are predicting) would be a sad story but nonetheless it would be great showdown again. But I really hope you’re wrong here! He-he-he.
Keep on writing,
Jay
Subject: Be Careful Criticizing Pacquiao
Pedro, I really feel ashamed of some of my countrymen who bashed you just because they didn’t agree w/ your article entitled “Pacquiao wins, but he’ll never beat Erik.” It’s really sickening reading all of those racist comments in fact I didn’t bother finishing it all coz they just turned a great day into something bad. I know it isn’t my place to give advice to an already accomplished writer. But, in the future please be careful when writing against Pacquiao. We Filipinos may be known for our hospitality but we do have our share of idiots as well. Again, I’m sorry for my countrymen’s comments and more power to www.RingTalk..com and to you.
Sincerely,
Eric
