Pound 4 Pound king Manny Pacquiao arrived back to his native Philippines this past week. Thousands of fans partied in the streets eagerly awaiting his homecoming parade.
Pacquiao is now turning his focus on his run for a political seat in his native country. It’s obvious that Pacquiao is completely fed up with discussing a possible showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Apparently the 31 year old Pacquiao feels he has nothing left to prove in the ring.
The champ spoke to the media and dropped hints that he is seriously contemplating retirement.
“I reached my dreams as a boxer without Mayweather. I do not need him, they are the ones who need me.”
Besides having nothing else to prove in boxing, pleas from his mother to retire seem to be weighing on Manny’s mind quite a bit.
“She kneels down and cries every time she asks me to quit. That’s a heavy burden when it’s my mother doing that,” he told press on Monday.
“What we need now is a man who rose from poverty, who understands the call of the poor like myself.”
Coach and Dedham native Freddie Roach would undoubtedly like to see at least one more fight from his star pupil (and top money maker) before he retires.
