MANILA CITY Hall has stepped up preparations for a “champion’s welcome” for Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao on Friday even as Mayor Lito Atienza ordered organizers to take advantage of the one-day delay of Pacquiao’s flight back to Manila.
Pacquiao, who was initially scheduled to return today, will be joined by Mayor Atienza and other city officials on a motorcade around the city.
According to Mayor Atienza, “this (Pacquiao’s flight delay) will give us more time to prepare for a champion’s welcome with the theme Kampeon ng Maynila, Kampeon ng Bansa.”
Brief ceremonies will be held at Manila City Hall before Pacquiao and Mayor Atienza lead the motorcade scheduled to start at 9:30 am.
Organizers of the event, headed by Manila Sports Council (MASCO) Chairman Arnold “Ali” Atienza, said the motorcade will pass through major thoroughfares covering the city’s six districts to enable residents to get a glimpse of the Gen. Santos pride, who is an adopted son of Manila.
