LOS ANGELES — There maybe some truth to what is written inside a fortune cookie.
Back in Nov. 2003 in San Antonio, Texas, where Manny Pacquiao put on a memorable showing against Marco Antonio Barrera, the Filipino fighter revealed that a few days before dealing the Mexican the worst beating ever, he dined in a Chinese restaurant and was amazed with what he read upon breaking open a fortune cookie.
The message said Pacquiao would surprise a lot of people and when he was declared winner by 11th round stoppage at the highly-partisan Alamodome, he remembered what was written.
Fast forward to 2005.
Just like what happened in the Lone Star State almost two years ago, Pacquiao went to eat at a Chinese restaurant here and got another telling message when he took the small piece of paper from inside the crunchy after-dinner treat.
It read: “You are just starting on your path to success.”
Although he kept it inside his brown clutch bag, Pacquiao only realized there was probably something to it following his destruction of the iron-jawed Mexican slugger Hector Velazquez over the weekend at the Staples Center.
“Heto pa nga iyon o,” Pacquiao told a couple of scribes, flashing it at the same time so their cameras can get a good shot.
“Ibig sabihin kaya nito ay magsisimula pa lang ang mga magagandang bagay sa career ko?” he asked.
